Saturday at WWE Super Show-Down, Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey successfully teamed with The Bella Twins to score a decisive victory over The Riott Squad, making Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan submit simultaneously to double Armbars.
Now, Rousey prepares to defend her title at WWE’s first-ever all-women’s pay-per-view event, WWE Evolution. Who will step to The Baddest Woman on the Planet?
Moments before her match with Ronda Rousey, Ruby Riott claimed that handing the Raw Women’s Champion her first loss in WWE would be her way of creating something truly beautiful. She’ll have to wait a little while longer to see it.
Yes, The Baddest Woman on the Planet remains undefeated, despite Ruby exploiting Rousey’s relative inexperience by bringing every dirty trick in the WWE playbook to bear. From a fishhook where the ref couldn’t see to using The Riott Squad to her advantage, Ruby was well on her way to an underhanded win until Ronda simply decided she’d had enough: The Raw Women’s Champion scooped Ruby out of the air mid-Riott Kick attempt and ripped off a near-unanswered rally, ending with an Armbar that earned an immediate tapout. It may not have been what Ruby would describe as “beautiful,” but it sure was pretty.
Ruby Riott had been scheduled to battle Brie Bella on Raw tonight, but Ruby Riott & Co. are never content to have just one enemy at a time: The match was reconfigured into a Six-Woman Tag that roped in Nikki Bella (who’ll team with Brie and Ronda Rousey against the Squad at WWE Super Show-Down) and Natalya (who got bushwhacked by Ruby & Co. when she attempted to answer Rousey’s Open Challenge last week), and The Riott Squad survived the trio of veterans to walk away with a big-time win.
And “survive” is a very appropriate term: Brie came out swinging so hard that Liv Morgan had to exit the match after being incapacitated by a “Yes!” Kick to the face, handing the Squad a 3-on-2 disadvantage. Ruby and Sarah Logan hung tough, however, and they took advantage of Natalya’s overzealousness to secure the victory: The Queen of Harts locked Logan in the Sharpshooter, but she didn’t notice a tag to Ruby seconds earlier, which left her vulnerable to a quick-strike Riott Kick that put the match away.
Brie wasn’t on Smackdown, but the Brie/Bryan vs Maryse/Miz story continued:
Fresh off their contentious win at the WWE Hell in a Cell pay-per-view event over Daniel Bryan & Brie Bella, The Miz and his “special guest” Maryse arrived on SmackDown LIVE ready to chat it up about, well, themselves.
Miz claimed he would again defeat Bryan when they collide at WWE Super Show-Down for the right to challenge the WWE Champion, and Maryse shockingly announced that tonight would be her last night on SmackDown LIVE … at least for now. The “hardest-hitting couple in WWE” also took potshots aplenty at their opponents on “Miz TV,” insulting Brie for only marrying Daniel for publicity before Miz boldly called out Bryan for a fight right now. The “Yes!” Man hit the scene to let Miz know that he could talk about their issues all he wants… but he best not talk about Brie. With that, Bryan charged into the ring and absolutely unloaded on The A-Lister.
In the midst of his flurry, Bryan connected with a dropkick that knocked The Miz right into Maryse, who crumbled to the mat clutching her stomach.
EMTs hit the scene as Miz tended to his hurt wife, and Bryan watched on in absolute shock. Bryan did anything he could to assist the EMTs, but it was all a ruse, as Maryse suddenly started laughing and stood up, and Miz attempted to blindside his nemesis, but The Beard blocked his attempt at the Skull-Crushing Finale. From the apron, Maryse tried to hold Bryan by grabbing his hair to allow The A-Lister to charge at The “Yes!” Man, but Bryan moved out of the way, and Miz accidentally bumped into Maryse again (no schemes this time), before Bryan clotheslined Miz out of the ring, having him join his Mrs. on the floor below.
The Riott Squad attacked Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey
With Alexa Bliss out of the way, Ronda Rousey is firmly entrenched as Raw Women’s Champion, and the division is wide open for challengers. Despite the lingering damage to her ribs, The Baddest Woman on the Planet decided on Raw she would institute an Open Challenge policy, but what was looking to be a friendly challenge from her training partner Natalya instead became The Riott Squad’s biggest power play yet.
Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan & Sarah Logan — who’ll face Ronda and The Bella Twins at WWE Super Show-Down — answered The Queen of Harts’ music, dragging the former SmackDown Women’s Champion out to the ramp after an apparent backstage attack. Ruby declared she would be accepting the challenge instead, though Ronda rocked her with a right hand to instigate a three-on-one mugging from The Riott Squad. The Bellas quickly arrived to even the odds, helping the still-wounded Ronda dispatch of Ruby and her cohorts and giving them the early advantage as Super Show-Down approaches.
